Our story

Hailing from the rugged french and welsh coastline, water has shaped both our worlds since the beginning. Growing up in wetsuits, we spent our childhoods with sandy toes and salty hair, immersed in the wild atlantic seas that lap both our homelands.

since then the ocean has run like a watery vein throughout both our lives. It led me (charlie) down the path to become a marine scientist (msc) who researches human impacts on the ocean, and alexis to become a full-time sailor and freediving instructor. In 2021, our shared passion for the ocean brought us together when we met underwater freediving in the Canary islands.

since then we have taken to a life on the sea, living full-time onboard our wooden catamaran, ‘feral’, which we salvaged on a beach in portugal, and rebuilt with repurposed and recycled materials, transforming her into the perfect freediving platform.

powered by the wind and the waves, we have sailed throughout the atlantic, and welcomed groups of divers onboard to dive with us in beautiful locations from the azores to the canary islands, to cape verde.

Having taught hundreds of students from across the globe, Alexis is now an AIDA Master Freediving Instructor and has helped countless students unlock the deep whilst overcoming every type of challenge, from equalisation issues to mental blocks. His dedicated approach to teaching is second to none and he makes every student feel confident, capable, and safe in the water.

It's because of him I (charlie) have gone on to achieve my AIDA Level 4 Master Freediver certification, and for both of us, freediving has become our way of life.

We both believe it is an incredibly powerful tool that has the power to change lives, and that’s why we feel strongly about teaching this sport to others, and to give people the chance to experience the magic of it for themselves.

our boat

Feral is a 50-year old wharram catamaran, whose design is inspired by ancient polynesian voyaging craft. During the rebuild we decided to refit her in a unique way, using raw, recycled and repurposed materials. Her deck is lashed together; her mast is an old electricity post, and her boom and gaff branches from the forest. a modern day pirate ship, she offers a raw and unique backdrop to our freediving sessions. her spacious wooden deck makes a perfect space for breathwork and stretching before diving, and a post dive space to relax in.

onboard we have all the kit needed to conduct our in water sessions, including a freediving bouy, lanyards and 80m of line.

We also have your basic kit covered and can provide the following to those that come onboard:

  • Mask

  • Snorkel

  • weight belt + weights

  • fins

As we are limited on space, so we don’t have the room for suits, so we ask all divers to bring their own.

Everyone who steps onboard instantly falls in love with the space. we have no doubt you will too!
